About Us
PowerX is the first analytics and AI solution exclusively designed for the mobile network industry: we provide real-time tower insights and boost tower performance, reducing costs, carbon emissions, and wastage.
We’re a scale-up, headquartered in the UK but operating on a global scale. Our customers – leaders in their industry – have already described our solutions as cutting-edge and we are working with them on exciting projects to broaden our footprint.
This is an exciting time to join our organisation as we look to build out our ambitious analytics and intelligence platform, accelerate our growth, and establish our market lead. As we are doing that, we are growing our teams, including hiring a full cross-functional and remote software team.

Our Team
We’re currently a small team of telecoms, software, delivery, marketing and finance experts. We’re an early stage and remote-only startup (though we meet up regularly) with a wealth of varied, difficult, and interesting problems to solve to reach our vision.
We are looking for curious, kind, and self-directed people to play a personal part in the growth of a business at a pivotal stage in its life. Everyone has the opportunity to make their mark and bring their unique perspective.

The Role
The mobile network industry globally is undergoing seismic shifts with 5G rollouts, zero-diesel and carbon initiatives, rural expansion, urban densification, and a new drive for data-driven management, planning, and operation of networks to drive down inefficiencies. Operators struggle with the challenge of making sense of the torrents of data from their network, resulting in 10 billion gallons of diesel burnt every year, unused battery capacity, wasted solar, and unnecessary site visits, along with a plethora of manual processes and overhead.
We use AI, IoT, and other cutting-edge technology to collect and analyse huge amounts of data about mobile network sites, their components, and their power usage. Our platform takes control and optimises site behaviour (reducing CO2 emissions by 50%), identifies anomalies, and makes recommendations on how to manage and upgrade the site for peak efficiency. Our analytics allow operators to take control of their networks at scale — we are aiming to deploy to hundreds of thousands of towers over the next 3 years.
We’re looking for an additional data scientist to join the team. We ingest a huge amount of time-series data from every site we connect to, and use a variety of data science and machine learning techniques to extract insight and value for our customers. You’ll be working with the data science and software team to identify opportunities and implement solutions for providing innovative functionality on our data analytics platform, as well as extracting, analysing, interpreting, and presenting data from our dataset to help product development, business intelligence, and sales projects.
We need a team-player to contribute to our platform that uses modern data, AI, and UX best practices to help network operators reduce their impact on the environment, remove their reliance on diesel, and make their networks sustainable.
Experience of telecoms is not essential.
Below are some examples of projects you may be involved in:
- Researching new ways to reduce power usage at sites
- Incorporating extreme weather and storm predictions into our platform and models
- Modelling physical hardware virtually to create virtual test-beds
- Implementing a process to build-measure-learn rapidly on customer UX
- Develop new visualisations and analytics for high-data density use-cases
- Experiment with new statistical/ML approaches to meeting customer needs
If you thrive in a start-up environment and you love rolling up your sleeves to design products from scratch, take them to market and drive early adoption, if you are self-motivated, enjoy working at pace or if you want to leave your fingerprint on the products we build, if you are passionate for cutting edge solutions with impact on our planet, this is the environment for you. As this is an early team hire, you’ll be able to bring your knowledge of best practices, set up processes and culture, and your contributions will make an immediate recognisable impact.

Key Responsibilities
- Implementing a wide range of analytics for automatically extracting insight from our data feeds
- Collaborating with our business analysts and software engineers to design innovative solutions to the problems our clients face
- Designing algorithms and experiments to identify new opportunities for our product development
- Processing, cleaning, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
- Defining, tracking, and reporting on KPIs for a variety of use-cases
- Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance
- Assess our data pipelines and processes and suggest and implement improvements and automations
- Ensure you stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and techniques, evaluating and implementing those that can help us continuously improve our data science
- Conduct research, develop prototypes, and proofs of concept
Broadly, you should have:
- Professional or academic experience in data science or data analytics positions
- Strong Python & SQL experience
- A strong working knowledge of data science techniques and tools
- Experience working with time series data
- A passion for solving interesting problems in clever, efficient ways
- Experience visualising data and analysis
- Good applied statistics skills
- Experience of machine learning techniques is a plus, or a desire to learn more

Working Here
We’re a fully remote team, though we meet regularly in person when circumstances allow for it. We keep in close contact on video and rely on each other every day. We offer generous compensation, holiday allowance, pension and equity. We’re flexible with work and family always comes first. We aim for continuous learning and improvement and support the professional development of our team in whatever ways work best.
You will have the opportunity to work with software, business analysis, QA, design, devops and data science experts within the software team, and a wealth of industry expertise in the company. Our problems are varied across the technology stack, and you will have the opportunity for continuous learning in any area that might be of interest to you. We use scrum with all the ceremonies you’ll be familiar with, and on a daily basis you’ll be working on problems with immediate application and impact for our clients.
While a remote team, we also aim for meetups at least quarterly. We’ll choose locations that are easy to get to for all members, likely in London.
This is an exciting and pivotal time for our company, and our vision is hugely ambitious. It’s an ideal time to join our team and help build a unique, market defining platform.
